Did they actually select the brands? Brands aren't inherited automatically from the event. For instance, if shoes were the product, we wouldn't want to auto-select all the brands (Nike, Sketchers, ...

I'm not sure what would cause that. Does it happen in any other database you try in? It has to be a setting somewhere. 

Again, I think this is working as designed. You are performing a new search. The system is returning the results of your search. I think it should display them expanded.
