Unable to Attach SharePoint Document Links to Project Attachments
Zendesk ticket: https://ungerboeck.zendesk.com/agent/tickets/380586
Issue Summary
Description: Users are unable to attach a link to a SharePoint document. When attempting to save the link, the system displays a warning message ("Link is Required") and prevents the attachment from being added.
Business Impact: This issue prevents users from attaching SharePoint document links, limiting their ability to reference external documentation within Projects.
Environment Details
- Site URL: https://tahiti2027.wetrack.com
- Affected User Name: Nohoarii ARNOULD
- Affected User Email: narnould@tahiti2027.pf
Reproduction Steps
- Log into: https://supportteam.wetrack.com/ > Login: I used my support user credentials
- Navigate to Planning > Projects & Tasks > Click Add to create a new Project
- In the Add Project window, enter a Title, add a date and owner, then click Save & View Details. > The Project will be created
- Open the newly created Project and go to the Attachments tab. > Click the 'Or add a link' link
- In the Add Attachment window, paste the link into the Link field and enter a Title, Description, and Document Category.
- If the link points to a SharePoint home page, it saves successfully. If the link points to a SharePoint document, the system displays the warning: "Link is Required" and prevents saving the attachment. See screenshot ImportTaskGroup1.png
- The error message is not descriptive and does not confirm if links to documents are not supported.
-
I tested locally using Bitly to shorten the link; shortened links save successfully.
Verification
Reproduced on: Both Customer and Support site
Notes: This may be related to a similar enterprise case I previously worked, but I am not 100% sure. Please advise whether this behavior is working as designed or if an enhancement request is needed to support SharePoint document links. Please see: https://documentus.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/29596442297367-External-Links-on-Account-Portal-Server-Error-401-Unauthorized
Behavior Description
Actual Outcome: When attempting to attach a SharePoint document link, the system displays "Link is required" and prevents saving. The error message does not clearly indicate whether SharePoint document links are unsupported.
Expected Outcome: The system should support attaching SharePoint document links OR Display a clear validation message indicating that SharePoint document links are not allowed as attachments.

Hi Edwin. I did try and can see sharepoint links are not supported even though onedrive works. It is surely weird. I have reported in internally to the QAs and will come back when i know more. thanks
-
it's not depending on sharepoint or onedrive, the error comes when the url link is too long.
