Guidance Needed — Postmark & SPF Records (Client Question)
Hi everyone — looking for some guidance from anyone who has run into this before.
The Bushnell is asking whether Postmark offers something that can be added to their SPF record so emails sent through Momentus/Postmark show as approved and avoid SPF failures.
I saw in this Postmark article that it is a possibility:
https://postmarkapp.com/support/article/1102-why-is-it-not-required-to-include-postmark-in-our-own-custom-spf-record
Bushnell's concern is that some emails are landing in different inboxes because the messages are technically being sent via Postmark rather than directly from their employee mail servers. They shared an example where SPF failed: Email Header Analyzer, RFC822 Parser - MxToolbox
I’m trying to confirm:
- Is adding Postmark to a client SPF record something we allow or recommend?
- If this is possible, what is the correct process internally?
- Does the consultant coordinate this?
- Or is this handled by another Momentus team (Support / Tech Services / etc.)?
Would love any best practices, previous experiences, or guidance on the right path forward here.
Thanks in advance!

Hi all – wanted to poke this article again to see if anyone has any guidance/answers. The CX just emailed again asking.
Thank you!

Kristi Miles You're kinda my go-to for Postmark-y things. Do you know of anything here?

Bang on with the article on Postmark's site. This could be achieved if we could have a custom return path. The customer would then be able to update their sender policy framework with that customized path. But with our current setup across Elite in Postmark, we aren't able to allow a customized return paths. So in short, the answer is no, we can't do this.
I'd have to have Elizabeth Fox tap the engineering team for what an LOE would be for this, so for now I'd think, raise a Pendo feedback for this customer.
Can you share a bit more about what you mean by emails are landing in different inboxes? Is that like some are going to inbox folder and some are going to spam? -
Thank you so much Kristi Miles! I will add to Pendo! 😊
I can't expand much on landing in different inboxes as that came directly from the client but I will ask and let you know. I'd assume it's junk vs spam vs inbox, but I will circle back and confirm.
