Complex Pricing Structure for ESC Item
MTCC have a complex pricing scheme that they would like to create in ESC. Here is the logic:

For the Shared Service, they have flat rates for internet if the event is 1 or 2 days, using Standard or Advanced (early bird) pricing. They have another flat rate if the event is 3+ days (it does not matter if the event is 3 days or 10 days – it is the same flat rate). They want clients to select this option. One network drop is included and additional drops can be purchased at a 1,2 and 3+ day flat rate, maximum 4.
For the Dedicated Service, the client can choose the network speed. This includes 1 drop and additional drops are a flat $500.
I am thinking that nested packages may be the best way to manage this. This would be created this for wired and wireless connections separately (clients might want both). For example:
- Wired Internet Share Service
- Number of days (Mandatory Option)
- 1 Day
- Additional Connections (Upsell)
- 2 Days
- Additional Connections (Upsell)
- 3+ Days
- Additional Connections (Upsell)
- 1 Day
- Number of days (Mandatory Option)
- Wired Internet Dedicated
- Number of days (Mandatory Option)
- 1 Day
- Select Speed (Mandatory
- 10 Mbps
- 30Mbps
- … and so on
- Additional Connections (Upsell)
- Select Speed (Mandatory
- 2 Days
- Select Speed (Mandatory
- 10 Mbps
- 30Mbps
- …and so on
- Additional Connections (Upsell)
- Select Speed (Mandatory
- 3+ Days
- Select Speed (Mandatory
- 10 Mbps
- 30Mbps
- … and so on
- Additional Connections (Upsell)
- Select Speed (Mandatory
- 1 Day
- Number of days (Mandatory Option)
This is all very confusing! And I am not sure how it will look from the client’s perspective without some testing. Does anyone have any better ideas? If not, do you think the above would work?

MTCC tried configuring the packages within packages using the approach detailed above. They were able to build the nested package, however when they added it to the price list, were unable to set pricing for the items in the nested package.
The article below talks about showing nested details on the package configuration. This seems to be what we need:

It refers you to step 5 of the article below - however there is no step 5!

Does anyone know what we are missing? Is there a better way we can go about this? Seth Halvaksz , are there any other ESC experts we can tag? Thanks!

Martin Stephens the reference is “in step 5 of the Configure the Package section” - so the first section in the TOC. There is not intended to be a fifth section in the TOC.
That being said, I've dug through the revision history on the articles and it looks like it's now step 8, basically the point where the package is created and the Edit Package window opens and you're updating settings. Thing is, I can't find the “Show nested details field” to save my life. If someone can point me to where that is, I'll get both articles updated (and remove specific step references, because they are just impossible to maintain).

@... Thank you! Yes, I ran into the same thing. The “Show Nested Details” do not seem to exist…maybe they did once upon a time.
The result is that when trying to add the nested package, it only shows the options from the first package. Packages on the second level (and beyond) do not provide the nested package options - they are treated like base resources.
For MTCC I am looking at a workaround, as they are in a crunch. I created nested options for the internet tiers on the navigation pane. This means we can just use regular packages for selecting the internet speeds. Hopefully this will be adequate for them - they are currently reviewing this.

Martin Stephens I think I may have found it, but I also think (in rereading the text in the article step) it may just be about viewing the nested details on the Edit Packages window and not anywhere else.

Thanks Linda,
Yes, this option seems to be missing on the Package configuration. I thought it might be because the nested package is using mandatory/optional substitutions (a functionality gap) however the problem may be directly with the nested packages (a bug).

I might be simplifying this a bit much, but can't this be done with Pricing Schemes? You make is so the select how long they want it for and the price adjusts depending on the duration.
