Service Orders - View Resource/Inventory Item Image before ordering
Answered- Account name - Hamilton City Council (H3)
- Region - APAC
- Client version - 24.4
- Description of the issue - View Resource/Inventory Item Image before ordering
- What does the client want to do? Why do they want to do this?
- H3 has a unique request as they manage multiple sites/venues. Recently they took over a venue "Gardens" which has their own set of equipment's. The equipment's owned by "Gardens" which are now configured in the system as inventory items.
- The question is when somebody from Operations team orders an equipment from Gardens, they would want to see what that particular resource look like before they place an order. Is there a neat way of seeing this, open to hear any ideas/suggestions? Use case is pretty simple, users who are ordering this, they necessarily don't know what the piece of equipment look like, hence would like to see this first and then order.
- What does the client want to do? Why do they want to do this?
- What you've already tried or suggested. Why does this not work?
- I'm thinking if they have uploaded images against inventory item, may be an EZWriter report to show list of items in a report or a web page format but on other hand i would like the process to be simple where user can see the equipment and then place an order.
- The other idea i had was to upload the image under Notes against price list item, but it would still mean additional clicks and more admin work to get this created which isn't san efficient way.
- Business impact if not resolved - More admin work and inaccuracy in the ordering process
- Attach relevant files (such as screenshots) - NA
- Links to articles where you've looked for solutions and also other steps you've taken to research the issue.

- It would be a win-win if “Resource Images” can be extracted in a viewable format for internal stakeholders as a library of items which can be reviewed prior ordering.
- Thought about creating a sharepoint library of items with images but that takes away users from Enterprise, result in disconnection.

Anthony Costantino have you heard this type of request before?

Any ideas on this one?

My first thoughts - since we're talking service orders - would be to consider an internal ESC site for placing these orders as it gives you the UI that you may be looking for.
Alternatives for internal view from the Add Service Order Items - I think it just depends on what someone has access to. A note on the price list item may be the best option available - as I don't see the capabilities to drill down easily to a view only page of the resource.
If none of the above - wondering if adding an “Image” column to the Price List Items page where if an item has an image - it displays an icon that you can click on to view the image would gain any traction for other customers -
@... tagging you for your thoughts on this one

Using a portal, like OEO, would be a decent option, especially if these are event orders. I would not recommend ESC since that will create exhibitor data.
If the portal idea does not work, the next best idea is the price list item note where users can view the note, even with a few additional clicks.
Anything else that I can think of would take implementing enhancements.

Thanks so much Ryan and Eric for ideas, i'll propose these options to them, will see how we go. The best option is sounding like image against price list item as a note without any investment.

Seth Halvaksz if we're talking about backoffice only and not through a extension, yes, i've heard this request before… to enhance the Add Service Order Items workflow to make accessible to the user a note about the price list item (resource) or image of item so that the user can visually confirm the item they are ordering.
