Ability for System Admins to Add Tooltips to UDFs and other standard fields

  • Description of the issue: 
    • The Enterprise platform currently supports tooltips on a limited set of standard fields only. Sys Admins cannot create or configure tooltips for User Defined Fields (UDFs) or for standard fields that have been repurposed or relabelled. The only available workaround is to add a Note field beneath the target field, but this consumes significant screen space if doing for many fields, disrupts layout, and does not behave like contextual help.
  • What does the client want to do? Why do they want to do this?
    • The client wants Sys Admins to be able to define help text or hover‑based tooltips for both UDFs and standard fields. Users should be able to hover over a field (or click an info icon) to see guidance on how the field should be used.
    • They want this because adding notes take up too much space on forms with many fields, are visually intrusive, and do not provide subtle, discoverable guidance. Hover‑based tooltips would offer cleaner, more efficient, and more consistent user support.
  • Please give a descriptive user story. Often clients want to solve a problem by doing X. If we know the problem, sometimes it can be solved via Y.
    • As a System Administrator, I want to add a tooltip or help text to any field (standard or UDF), so that users can understand the purpose and correct usage of the field without cluttering the screen or relying on external documentation, and data entry remains consistent across the organisation.
    • This is a usability, training, and data‑governance requirement - not just a cosmetic enhancement.
  • What you've already tried or suggested. Why does this not work?
    • Suggested workaround: Add a Note field under the UDF or standard fields-  snapshot provided
    • Why it does not work:
      • Takes up too much space on the screen.
      • Not visually subtle; disrupts the layout.
      • Not discoverable in the same way as a hover tooltip.
      • Not suitable for screens with many fields or compact layouts.
    • There is currently no configuration option to add hover‑based help text to UDFs.
  • Business impact if not resolved
    • Increased training overhead for new or casual users.
    • Higher risk of inconsistent or incorrect data entry.
    • Reliance on tribal knowledge instead of embedded guidance.
    • Reduced usability on screens with many fields due to note‑field clutter.
    • Additional support queries for “what does this field mean?”
    • Difficulty enforcing internal data governance standards.

This impacts day‑to‑day operational efficiency and long‑term data quality.

System Parameter AA 045 - Come across this parameter, not sure if this is valid or correct for help text. Upon researching this believe to be supporting legacy version like 19.80

Standard field has help text but the checkbox to enable to greyed out

  • Links to articles where you've looked for solutions and also other steps you've taken to research the issue.
    • Upon further research i came across standard fields have the help text on selective fields not all and have supporting checkbox to make it visible to public
    • UDF's currently do not support help text or hover over style help.
    • No support articles currently present to support this or clarify.

    • In modern platforms such as Salesforce or any other, this looks like a configurable field to better support end users using the system, so this would be super valuable for data consistency.

    • Is is possible to enable the help text to be displayed since we have this functionality for standard fields already? (This could be a short term win if at all possible)
    • Does this enhancement align with our roadmap for this year for Q2 - Enhancement Requests - Continuing to improve our user experience through our most popular enhancement requests. It'd be valuable to know what's being targeted to set the expectations with customers when get asked.
