Queries regarding Crystal Reports 2016 End of Support
AnsweredHi team, apologies if this isn't the appropriate place to ask this but I wasn't too sure where best to send these queries. Please see below from MBS:
As we are nearing Crystal Report v2016 end of support on 31 Dec 2024, can you kindly advise us on the following:
- Does the current subscription and support contract include Crystal Report v2020 upgrade?
- If yes, when will MBS crystal report builder be auto upgraded to version 2020?
- If no, please advise how do we go about crystal report version upgrade, the current contract ends in Mar 2025.
- Are all MBS existing reports compatible to run on v2020 if an upgrade is required? Will there be any upgrade/conversion cost involved?
Thanks team, please let me know if I should direct this elsewhere.

@... - Will look into this. We may need to setup time in the new year to gather more information.

@...,
We have discuss this internally.
1) There has been no noticeable difference between 2016 and 2020 except that 2020 has a few more design flaws in it.
2) We have discussed having a 2016 and 2020 environment. The cost to upgrade every customer is significant but if some customers want/need to be on 2020, I don't think that would be a problem.
3) The 2016/2020 designer is 100% independent from the engine that runs the reports in the software. I personally maintain updates to standard reports in 2020 designer but that has no impact when they are ran in the software, since they are independent.

@... Let us know what the determination is. We can talk in the new year to determine direction.

Dustin Banks & Richard Marmura,
I have reviewed the information above on Crystal Report. Since the post was made 7 months ago are there any updates on the information? Disney has asked when/if Momentus plans to upgrade Crystal Report since it is on an unsuported version. In addition, they have concerns because they have several custom reports using Crystal. They are asking what the downstream affects they will have on their reports when/if Momentus upgrades to the newer version of Crystal Report.

Richard Marmura, I would say we start the process to upgrade to Crystal Reports 2025. The steps for this would be getting a new license from IT for me, testing it out, them upgrading the VM environment.
Teena Tabacchi, I have seen very few issues in reports when upgrading versions since the Crystal Reports Designer is a different system/software then the Crystal Reports Engine that the report server runs. The CR Designer is not the important part but the CR Engine is. We need to make sure changes made in the 2025 version still work correctly in the CR Engine.
