Intermittent issue with Custom event number generator - QPAC
AnsweredHi team,
We have an ongoing issue with the Custom Event Number Generator for QPAC - https://support.ap-venueops.com/accounts/account-381-A
Every now and then an issue occurs whereby the sequence ends up jumping numbers:
For example, event numbers #47511, #47513, #47515, #17516, #47517 and #47521 don’t exist but events either side of these do…. as you can see the generator doesn’t always just skip a single number.
The reasoning behind this generator is due to their finance system only having capacity for 5 digits for this reference point so there is only a finite amount of event numbers available to make use of, so I feel like this issue needs to be resolved for the future. It was initially estimated that they could have around 10 years of events before hitting their limit but if the generator keeps jumping this will be reduced.
Is there any way to stabilise this at all to help lessen the issue?

@... @... or Elizabeth Fox Do you have any ideas on this?

Hi @... Marc Horner
I'll reach out to engineering about this and come back to you :) -
Hi @..., Marc Horner,
It is believed the custom generator is a custom integration set up and managed by the technical services team. My thoughts are that @jarrodDemeza would be the best first point of contact for this but as you see there, I can't tag him in here.
This sort of "skipping" is likely due to our reliance on webhooks for change notifications. Upon creation of an object, often multiple webhook pushes happen, and that can result in multiple numbers being generated for the same object.
It's not an easy problem so solve, for best end results we'd really need to build this feature into the app itself, so it could be submitted as an idea (Pendo) with QPAC as the linked customer.
As for moving forward with the current issue, I'm not sure of the process for connecting with Tech Services, is that a Support/Consultant workflow via Zendesk? -
Thanks @... I will add it to Pendo as a request from QPAC. I am not sure if we have an official process between here and TS either….
Sam Miles might be able to help clarify?

Hey Marc Horner, if this originated from a ticket (couldn't find one) it would be best jsut to kick it over to the TS global queue. If it didn't, I would get them to log a ticket (or log one on their behalf) and assign it to TS.
It sounds very similar to this ticket Ticket: RE: Venue-ops Invoice series… – Momentus Support Center – Zendesk and relates to the problematic use of flowgear. I'm not awre of this intergration/cutomization - but safe to say it uses Flowgear. -
Thanks Sam Miles yes indeed Jio has the same issue with custom invoice number generation. I have found a frozen ticket so I will thaw it out and set to over to TS global. To close the loop on this one @... I have added links to the ticket & pendo feedback:

Thanks Marc Horner :)
