Transferring a Tenant Between RavenDB Servers

Overview

As Elite has grown, we have hit the limits of what we can do with a single RavenDB server. We need to start adding new servers, and to do that we need to be able to transfer tenant databases seamlessly from one server to another.

IMPORTANT

• You should always coordinate with the operations/SRE teams before transferring a tenant.
• When the transfer is successful, the old database still remains -- disabled -- on the original server. The operations/SRE team are responsible for cleaning these databases up.

The UI

The UI for managing the transfers is under Support > System > Raven. Here you will see the list of servers and the tenant connections below.

Initiating the Transfer

In the Tenant Connections area, click on the tenant that you wish to transfer. This will open a slider where you can select the target server.

Once you have selected a target server, you must type "transfer tenant" into the box to confirm. Then click the TRANSFER button.

You should see an indicator that the transfer has started. At this point you should go over the to the Tools > Support Tool Logs area to follow its progress.

Monitoring Progress

Use the standard support tool logs feature to monitor the progress of the transfer.
